Pure Joy Wellness Approved! Skinny POP Popcorn

This post marks the fourth edition of my monthly blog series: Pure Joy Wellness Approved!

A little background on the series for those who are new:

The wellness industry is saturated with products. (It’s a multi-trillion dollar industry, afterall.) My goal with this series, Pure Joy Wellness Approved, is to help you cut through the noise, and give you insight into the items and brands that I use on a regular basis. Every month, I’ll be featuring a product I love that can make achieving your health goals easier—whether you want to lose weight, take better care of your skin, develop an exercise routine, find balance with your nutrition, or improve your mental health, to name a few.

Now, let me introduce you to this month’s product…

SkinnyPop Popcorn, Original Flavor

Everything that’s going on in our world right now has hurt me to my core, and when that happens, my first impulse is to do something that comforts for me—and that something is often snacking. For that reason, I make an effort to keep snacks around that are delicious, but still rooted in health. That’s why I love (and I mean love) SkinnyPop Popcorn.

Why I Love It

It’s way healthier than your typical run-of-the-mill popcorn.

Store bought popcorn often contains tons of butter (or chemicals engineered to taste like butter), hydrogenated oils, and other strange ingredients. SkinnyPop only contains popcorn, sunflower oil, and salt. So for the vegans and gluten-free folks out there, you can eat SkinnyPop without worrying about triggering your allergies or going against your dietary restrictions. Sure, you could buy plain popcorn kernels at the store, but it’s certainly not as convenient, and you have to self-regulate your portion size.

It comes in single serving, 100 calorie bags.

Speaking of portion size, I love that SkinnyPop comes in both larger bags (for groups and multiple servings) and smaller 100 calorie, single-serving bags. Each individual bag contains only 100 calories, 6 grams of fat, and 9 carbs, plus you get 2 grams of insoluble fiber (great for digestion!) and 2 grams of protein. As far as salty snacks go, this is a stellar macronutrient profile.

I highly recommend the individual bags, as it makes portion control easy—you don’t even have to think about it!—but if you choose to buy the larger bags, each cup of the original SkinnyPop popcorn contains about 39 calories. The low calorie count and the fact that it contains some fiber and protein makes it a practical but filling snack, unlike potato chips or fries, and I find that it has the perfect amount of salt.

Not only does SkinnyPop help me keep my grazing in check, but it also leaves me satisfied without uprooting my diet. I love having a snack that’s both comforting and nutritious—it makes maintaining an overall healthy diet much, much easier.

Give SkinnyPop a try—you won’t be disappointed! And once you do, head over to our Private Pure Joy Wellness Facebook Group and let me know what you think. (Maybe even tell me your go-to comfort snack!)

Stay safe, sane, and grounded,

Renata
