As many of you know, I’m very passionate and adamant about taking care of my skin. Our skin is our largest organ, and it’s also one of the first places where signs of aging show up. Fortunately, with the right skincare routine (combined with a healthy lifestyle), we can help minimize the impact that aging can have on our skin.

Today, I’m going to share some of my favorite skincare tips, tricks, and products so that you can give your skin the attention and love it needs (and deserves!).

My three principles of skincare

When building your anti-aging skincare regimen and choosing products, I recommend keeping three objectives in mind: hydration, exfoliation, and antioxidants.

First, let’s talk about hydration. Hydration keeps your skin plump and supple, and it happens from the inside out and from the outside in. In other words, it’s not solely about the products you put on your face. Drinking water is essential for healthy skin—keeping your body hydrated helps your skin stay hydrated. That’s why the first thing I do when I wake up every morning is drink at least 16 ounces of water. Usually, that water is warm and mixed with lemon juice, which I drink for its detoxifying benefits. I also make sure to drink 2 to 3 liters of water throughout the day.

Product-wise, I always keep a hydrating facial moisturizer on hand, as well as an eye cream. I like Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost moisturizers, which you can get in a gel or a cream. They’re oil-free, non-comedogenic, and packed with hyaluronic acid. For eye cream, I’ve been using the Neoceuticals Eye Cream for years, and it’s one of the few skincare products I’ve found that actually delivers on its anti-aging claims.

Next up, exfoliation. To be honest, I exfoliate my skin every single day. (Some people have sensitive skin and can’t do that, but I’m just sharing what works for me!) As we get older, our dead skin cells don’t turn over as quickly, meaning they don’t regenerate as quickly. Exfoliating, specifically with a glycolic cleanser, will help turn over the cells on the surface of your skin faster, leaving your skin feeling smoother, softer, and appearing brighter. Also, exfoliating will allow whatever products you put on to be better absorbed, so you can actually reap the benefits of them! The glycolic cleanser I use is prescribed by my dermatologist, but the Purifying Cleanser from Skinceuticals is also a great option.

Last but not least, antioxidants. When we walk out into the world, our skin is exposed to environmental toxins and free radicals. These toxins can harm our skin’s elasticity, causing it to break down and develop fine lines and wrinkles. Using a vitamin C serum can protect your skin from such fates, the iS Clinical Pro Heal Serums are my personal favorites. In the morning, I use the brown bottle, and at night I use the blue bottle. These serums also assist with collagen production and can even out your skin tone, if that’s an issue you struggle with.

In terms of what order I apply these principles in, I start with exfoliation, then add antioxidants, and finish with hydration. Oh, and I always wear a good sunscreen! I wrote an article on why you need sunscreen and dish out some product recommendations, so make sure to check it out.
