I love coconut oil.
Not only does it taste great on food, it is the perfect product for so many of my beauty regimens. I use it so much, I keep a few different jars all over the house — including the kitchen, the bathroom, and the bedroom!
Who would have thought about turning something that is a pantry staple into a beauty staple? It’s totally affordable, it’s completely natural, there are no fillers or chemicals and coconut oil also been shown to have antibacterial and antifungal properties.
It is perfect as an all-around body care product.
Here are my favorite ways to incorporate coconut oil into my beauty routine:
1. To Take Off My Makeup:
Coconut oil is one of the most effective makeup removers out there, and by far one of the best products to remove stubborn makeup without damaging the skin. I simply dab some coconut oil on a cotton pad and apply it over my skin. I hold it for 10 seconds over my eye makeup, and even the most durable eye makeup comes off. After you apply the coconut oil, put some rosewater onto a cotton pad and dab any remaining makeup off. My skin feels absolutely amazing afterwards!
2. Face Moisturizer:
Though I don’t use it all the time, because it’s a little heavy for my skin, coconut oil is an amazing deep moisturizing treatment. I prefer to use it at night rather than in the morning, because it can be too thick under my makeup. Use the same way you would any overnight moisturizer, and don’t forget the neck area!
3. Body Moisturizer:
So many body lotions contain harmful chemicals that can be toxic to the body. Skin being the largest organ, it’s so important to think about what we put on it. Simply apply it all over the body after the shower. Your skin will love it and you will glow.
4. Hair Treatment/ Hair Mask:
I love to rub coconut oil into the ends of my hair and leave it in to moisturize overnight. The oil is deeply conditioning and smells fantastic! (Just be sure to put a towel down so you don’t get it all over the sheets.) Then, just wash it out in the morning.
5. Before I Work Out:
I put some coconut oil on before I work out. That way, as the pores open when I work up a good sweat, it can penetrate even more deeply into my skin.
6. Cuticle Moisturizer:
I dab it onto my cuticles and let it sit for a few minutes to let the cuticle soften, and then I’m ready to go for a manicure. Plus, I can ditch harsh cuticle creams packed full of chemicals.
7. Overall Body Scrub:
I love mixing coconut oil with a few spoonfuls of sugar, salt, or ground coffee bean. I add in my favorite essential oil, and voila! I have my own natural homemade body scrub, rather than spending $60 bucks. I love to mix small batches and keep it in a jar (preferably unbreakable — coconut oil is slippery!) next to the shower.
8. Shaving Cream:
I chucked out all my expensive shaving cream and switched to coconut oil. Not only is it the perfect weight, texture and consistency to replace shaving cream, it smells like an absolute treat plus it makes my legs look great when I’m done.
