Pure Joy Wellness Approved - Oura Ring

As you probably know, the Pure Joy Wellness Walking Challenge is in full swing—we’re almost halfway through! So, in honor of making it this far, this month’s Pure Joy Wellness Approved product is on theme. Whether you joined the Walking Challenge with the intention of losing weight, getting more movement in your day, or decreasing your stress and anxiety levels, this product can help you do that, and give you tons of cool info about your body along the way.

Ladies, meet the Oura ring.

Why I Love This Product

The Oura Ring is a wedding-band-like sleep tracker that collects data about your body, activity levels, and sleep patterns. Using an optical heart rate monitoring technology via a sensor on the inside of the ring, the Oura Ring gives you accurate, personalized health information without you having to lift a finger (well, you have to put it on your finger in the first place, but other than that, no effort necessary!). Here are my top reasons for why I love the Oura Ring and why I recommend it to everyone I know:

You can learn so much about your body without any hassle.

Learning about your body and your habits has never been easier—the Oura Ring does it all for you, so long as you wear it. During the day, it measures your activity levels, calories, steps, inactive times, and even your naps. At night, it measures your resting heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, body temperature, sleep quality (light, deep, REM), nighttime movement, and sleep timing. The Oura Ring focuses on three categories: Readiness, Sleep, and Activity. The idea is that, based on the info that your ring collects, you’ll know what your mental, emotional, and physical capacity is. Each day, you get a Readiness score, which is based on your sleep, activity, heart rate, etc. and tells you how well you can expect to function. For example, if you score an 87 out of 100, it means you’ve adequately recovered from the events of the previous day, and your body is ready to tackle this new one. In short, the Oura Ring can help you improve your health by allowing you to track valuable data about yourself without you having to do any calculations, run any tests, or see any specialists. Needless to say, I’m obsessed.

It’s more stylish than a watch or step counter, making it great for everyday wear.

In general, and for the Walking Challenge especially, a step counter or GPS watch is an extremely useful tool. That said, not everyone loves the aesthetic of them. A Fitbit might look out of place with a fancier outfit, or maybe the color of your watch doesn’t go with the rest of your attire. An Oura Ring, on the other hand, is incredibly versatile—it just looks like a wedding band. Plus, it comes in four different colors, silver, black, stealth (which is a deep matte gray), and gold! I love that Oura offers these color options so you can choose one that works for your style (mine is silver because I wear primarily silver jewelry). Seriously, you’ll be shocked how well it blends into your classic day-to-day look.

It can help you achieve your health goals, whatever those are.

Many health trackers are geared towards one specific goal. Running watches, for instance, are typically utilized by runners to track their runs or improve their performance. Step counters are, of course, used to track steps. What I love about the Oura Ring is that no matter what your goal is, chances are there’s a piece of data the Oura Ring tracks that can help you work towards that goal. Many of my clients struggle with sleep, for example. The Oura Ring tracks your sleep patterns, quality, time, etc., all of which can help you optimize your sleep schedule and figure out the best time to sleep, how much your body needs to function properly, and more. So don’t look at the Oura Ring as “just another health tracker”—it does far more than your run-of-the-mill wearable, and the longer you have it, the more you learn.

The best place to purchase the Oura Ring is on the company’s website. It’s definitely an investment, but in my experience, and the experiences of my clients, it’s SO worth it.
